The Angkor Night Market has been opened for business on the 1st of March 2007. This opening gave visitors a chance to see the beginnings of the night market as sellers settled in for business and curious locals and tourists alike came to look at the new place in town.
The official opening was held on the 21st of September 2007. The ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by officials from all of the government ministries in Siem Reap.
Interest in the opening was high and attracted many local media outlets including the CTN and Bayon television networks. The media enthusiastically covered the highly anticipated opening of Siem Reap’s and indeed Cambodia’s first night market. The Angkor Night Market opened officially with the ribbon cutting by the district chief of Siem Reap, governor of Siem Reap and also his deputies.
To celebrate the opening the people in attendance were treated to a cocktail luncheon and donations were made by the governor to help the poor.
